ESPN- For the fourth time in five years, the Super Bowl has set a record for the most-watched television event in U.S. history, drawing 111.5 million viewers even though the Seattle Seahawks’ 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos wasn’t really competitive. The ratings record is further evidence of how live events are becoming dependable and valuable properties for broadcast television at a time the audience is fragmenting and ratings for regular entertainment shows continue to fall.

I’m not the only person you will hear say that Super Bowl sucked. It’s pretty much a universal constant at this point. Peyton looked like shit, the Broncos as a whole played terrible and the Seahawks treated them like children. So to have 111.5 million viewers and set the record for most watched tv program in the history of tv is fucking nuts. Dexter’s “The Getaway”, Breaking Bad’s “Ozymandias”, and The Sopranos “College” and “Blue Comet” are all some of the greatest episodes in TV history and combined they don’t even touch a fraction of the viewership of this SB. Of course those are cable programs and this is the god damn Super Bowl, but it just shows you that we as football fans will watch anything as long as it is live football, even a hunk of shit like this game. It could’ve been the Browns vs the Raiders and it would have topped 100 mill. The NFL has us all by the short and curlys and they know it. Fuck you Roger Goodell..again.
