“Great tackle by Jackson, and the Colts keep the drive alive with a gain of 3 on 3rd and 2.”

The Sports Xchange-The Browns released linebacker D’Qwell Jackson Wednesday (Feb. 26) and saved a $4.1 million roster bonus due March 15.

The move was the first major transaction for new general manager Ray Farmer.

“We had positive discussions with D’Qwell and his agent over the last several days, and we came to the mutual agreement to go in different directions,” Farmer said in a statement. “D’Qwell is the epitome of class, leadership and professionalism. Every day of his NFL career, D’Qwell has been a solid representative of the Browns and the city of Cleveland, both between the lines on Sundays and off the field in our area community.”

Jackson, the Browns’ second-round pick in 2006 out of Maryland, is now free to sign with any NFL team. He started 96 games in eight seasons for the Browns.

So yeah this happened a few days ago but I think it’s important for some fans to understand a few things. Especially any that are upset that now we’re getting rid of our “best players.” To address that really quickly; if he’s one of our best players, (and unfortunately he is) then we have serious problems with the overall quality of the team (and we do.) He was the leader of the defense, you know, the defense that could NEVER get a big stop when we needed it. Could NEVER get off the field on third down. Was NEVER disciplined enough to play a full 4 quarters. Yup, he was the leader of all that. Aside from being the leader of an underperforming defense, he was not a standout in his own position. He made a ton of tackles but they were all too far down the field. He never really made any impact on the game or changed it from his play alone. He got the job done but there are others who can do it better and Farmer realizes this. And lastly, he’s not getting any younger and he’s due a bunch of money. Perfect time to cut’em. He’ll latch on somewhere else and be serviceable for a year or 2 and he’ll make some tackles but the offense will still get the first down anyway. I hope we play against him.

  1. I agree with him being the leader of a shit defense, but I have a small hunch that they will be even shittier without him.
