Vulture- Zero Dark Thirty director Kathryn Bigelow and producer Megan Ellison are teaming up again. According to The Wrap, Kathryn Bigelow will direct an adaptation of Anand Giridharadas’s nonfiction book The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas, with Tom Hardy attached as the lead and Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures set to produce. The book tells the story of Mark Stroman, a self-proclaimed “American terrorist” (presumably Hardy) who shoots and nearly kills a Bangladeshi immigrant in a Dallas minimart, and the intertwining lives of the two men in the following decades. With Bigelow helming another morally fraught post-9/11 terrorist saga, Hardy playing another macho bad guy, and Ellison producing another film with “American” in the title, it sounds like everyone is sticking to what they do best. Are you paying attention, Academy voters of the future?

Everyone knows, and I have well documented, my love for Tom Hardy. Talent wise I think he is one of the best actors out there and visually, forget about it, gayballs for Tommy. But all of these movies being linked to him is starting to worry me because take a look at every other great actor in the world. Daniel Day Lewis, Denzel, Christian Bale, Leo..these guys are only attatched to or actually act in like one or two movies a year (even less for Day Lewis) and the world loves them. Give us a taste of your talent and we want it in buckets. But guys like DeNiro, Pacino, and now even Johnny Depp, they are just in too many fucking movies. Now I’m afraid the same thing is happening for Tom. This year he will have at least 2, maybe 3 movies come out. Then next year he has Mad Max so the marketing will be nauseatingly overdone and he is linked to an Elton John bio, a Kray twins gangster bio, Al Capone trilogy, Splinter Cell adaptation, and now a movie about an American terrorist. Of course they won’t all get made near each other, or ever, but that’s a lot of “linked” news reports about movies and TV shows. Daddy doesn’t like that Tommy, slow it down and just give us a taste. We don’t need the whole Hardy at once.

Broadway World.com- Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), a leading global entertainment company, and Saban Brands, a strategic brand management company that acquires and builds global consumer brands, are partnering to develop and produce an original live action feature film based on the iconic Power Rangers property, it was announced today by creator of Power Rangers Haim Saban and Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer. The announcement marks another step in Lionsgate’s continued commitment to build a broad portfolio of Branded properties and franchises with global appeal. Saban launched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as a live action television series more than 20 years ago, and the series has been in continuous production ever since. It has subsequently grown into one of the world’s most popular and recognizable brands, with toys, apparel, costumes, video games, DVD’s, comic books and other merchandise.

If you are in your 20-30s the Power Rangers were a huge part of your childhood. Every Saturday morning you had the Ninja Turtles, Duck Tales, Power Rangers and then the Care Bears (anyone who says they didn’t watch the Care Bears to try and be a tough guy is a fucking poser. Everyone watched that shit). I had no clue they still made Power Rangers shows and shit but it makes sense, it’s literally a never ending stream of cool shit they can do and stories to tell. I mean look at these bad guys, you can just make up someone new each week without fear of repeating yourself

But depending on how cheesy or ‘dark’ they make the movie it could go very well or very bad. In ’95 they made one with the original cast and it made like 70 million which is roughly 3 billion dollars in today’s money. And I know every young star in Hollywood is going to fight for a part so here is my dream cast for the new Power Rangers movie. (most are in their 30s because who knows how old the characters are supposed to be, it’s my cast fuck off)
Red Ranger (the funny one)- Ryan Reynolds (let’s hope he doesn’t fuck up this one like he did the other Superhero movies. Last chance Ryan, last chance)
Black Ranger (ninja)- Taylor Lautner (Twilight kid, he did all kinds of ninja shit on SNL)
Blue Ranger (nerd)- Jake Gyllenhaal (still has that October Sky dorkiness but can juice up and kick ass)
Yellow Ranger (tough girl?)- Megan Fox (just imagine her being all bitchy dressed in that leather costume…)
Pink Ranger (the hot chick)- Kaley Cuoco (has to be a chick everyone in the world wants to fuck)
Green Ranger (powerful)- Tom Hardy (he’s the most powerful one in my book! haha..God I’m gay for Tom Hardy)

Well there it is, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, Megan Fox, Kaley Cuoco, and Tom Hardy. If that doesn’t scream billion dollar movie then I don’t know what the fuck will. You’re welcome Hollywood, I’ll be expecting my check in the mail.

Here are the facts that make me want to see this movie asap. The Drop was written by Dennis Lehane, author of “Gone Baby Gone”, “Mystic River” and “Shutter Island” (those movies plus a lot of really good books). It is starring Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini in his final film role. It involves the cutest puppy of all time, the mafia, illegal money, a Brooklyn bar, and Gandolfini showing some flashes of Tony Soprano one last time. This isn’t the typical ‘see it in a theatre’ movie with special effects and all that jazz, but I will be there day one in the afternoon. Count on it.

I was watching a YouTube video from Jimmy Fallon where he and Jude Law make stupid faces that little kids sent in. It was a pretty funny bit, something short and simple for those old folks who still haven’t realized Jay Leno isn’t on the show anymore. While watching the video I starting thinking “Jude really rocks the receding hairline thing to a t, he makes it look good” (since I will most likely have the same version as him, albeit not as pronounced. I want to plan ahead) Then I started to think “Wow, he is a really good looking guy” and it hit me. I have a gay British thing. If I were to be forced into a homosexual relationship the top guys I would chose are all from the mother England. Tom Hardy, David Beckham and now Jude Law. Oh course Jeter is at the top of the list but let’s be real, that won’t ain’t gonna happen anytime soon. So then I asked Ken, is it weird that my “go gay” list is all British and he said yes. Naturally this needs to be a post so here is my list of British Guys and then Ken will list his, British or not.

As I explained to Jesse, back in my day (90’s) there were no British actors any straight American would ever consider let blow them except for Hugh Grant and that’s ONLY because he had crazy good hair. It was a respect thing. Sure he’s British but I’ll give him the privilege of performing a tongue tug because he has infinitely better hair than me.

But dat hair….

So he’s tops on the list. Numbers 2 through 5 on my list are Mr. Bean only because I literally can’t think of one more British actor from back then. Plus if you get past his unibrow, ugly face, bad teeth, disgusting mole, and stupid hair cut, he’s actually a decent looking man. (By British standards of course.)

Sean Connery automatically wins if we were doing an all-time list. Hand down.

NME- Tom Hardy has joined the cast of BBC drama Peaky Blinders, it has been revealed. Hardy, who has starred in Hollywood blockbusters including The Dark Knight Rises and Inception, has agreed to feature in the second season of the show and will now reunite with director and writer Steven Knight, who Hardy worked with on last years’ thriller Locke. According to Empire, Hardy will play a charismatic leader who clashes with the show’s protagonist Tommy Shelby, who is played by Cillian Murphy. Peaky Blinders, which is set in Birmingham in 1919 and tells the story of a gang known for sewing razor blades into their caps as they try to rule crime in the city, won critical acclaim when it was aired in 2013 and shooting on the second season is set to begin later this year. It was revealed in October last year that Hardy, who is set to star in the reboot of Mad Max in 2015, has also agreed to take on the role of Elton John in the forthcoming biopic of the piano-playing icon. Titled Rocketman, the film is billed as “a larger-than-life movie musical spectacle that tells the story of a child prodigy turned music legend”. Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall has penned the script.

Tom Hardy is probably my favorite actor right now followed by Bradley Cooper and a handful of others. He can play a rich fancy guy, a dirt bag thug, gay, funny, straight, Bane, Elton John, Al Capone, whatever you need he will play. And it helps he is really good looking and I think those go for both Hardy and Cooper. Bradley would be a harder sell as a tough guy but I think he could pull it off. And if you haven’t seen Peaky Blinders and you are a fan of gangster stuff, you’re surely missing out. The show is very well acted, well done, great stuff. To add in an actor of Tom Hardy’s caliber and star power will bring a SHIT TON to that show and I can’t wait. Also think Rocketman will be good but the Al Capone movie trilogy will be fucking amazing. They need to speed that process up asap.
